Friends of the Highline produces, records at Dubway

We’ve had the pleasure of recording with public arts institution Friends of the High Line over the past few weeks, collaborating with two artists on recorded audio materials to enhance their works. For those out of town, Friends of the High Line manages The High Line, an old elevated subway line on the west side of Manhattan that’s found a second life as a public park, walkway, and arts space.

Both artists we recorded – Shannon Finnegan and Tania Ketenjian – have works currently produced or in production through Friends of the High Line. The artists sat in individual sessions with Dubway engineers Keenan DuBois and Pascal McGilveray-Guard, respectively, to record and produce their audio materials.

You can find each artist’s work and statements at their websites, linked above, and you can find more about the High Line at the link – including where and when to see these works in situ!

Diabolical Season 3 shoots with Dubway, Lion TV

Investigation Discovery’s show Diabolical began shooting for its third season this past month, with Dubway’s Zac Suskevich on set as the production audio / location mix engineer. Suskevich is one of our most experienced location sound mixers and has worked on previous seasons of the show.

Diabolical is produced by London, Glasgow, and New York based production house Lion TV, one of our long-term partners. Dubway (and Suskevich) have contributed to many episodes of Lion’s productions, across a variety of shows, including many for Investigation Discovery. We’re excited to see this partnership continue!

Stay tuned to the upcoming season, or the network’s many other great offerings, on Investigation Discovery’s website.

Brian Cox records for Virgin Radio

We had the pleasure of recording actor Brian Cox (Super Troopers, Bourne Identity, the Royal Shakespeare Company) last week. Cox is working with Virgin Media for a radio project (via Virgin Radio) that’s still a bit quiet, but is sure to become public soon.

Dubway’s Pascal McGilveray-Guard engineered the voice-over recording, in partnership with Irish media production house Mutiny Group, a company we always enjoy working with.

McMeel Publishing records a new comedy book by Sarah Cooper

Author and comic Sarah Cooper has recorded the audiobook of her most recent release, last years’ How To Be Successful Without Hurting Men’s Feelings, with us at Dubway! It’s been a pleasure working with her and her team, including her publisher Andrews McMeel Universal and producer Charlie Upchurch.

Sessions were engineered by Dubway’s Louis Fisher and Zac Suskevich in our Main Floor studios. Cooper’s book wasn’t the first audiobook this same team has worked together on, however. Fisher, Suskevich, and Upchurch all contributed to recording and publishing the audiobook for Emmy Marucci’s Tell Me The Story Of You And Me, a book of poetry also published with Andrews McMeel Universal.

McKinsey records company materials in our NYC studios

mckinsey.png

Global consultancy group McKinsey recorded a series of internal audio-based products in our New York studios last month. Dubway engineer Zach Grappone handled the recording, data cleanup, and secure file transfers for the client.

As with all our projects, we are sure to use extremely secure systems when moving/storing client data, whether that’s to keep your unreleased music off of social media or to keep your internal business documents from leaking to the press or public.

There’s not much we can publicly say about this session, other than to congratulate all involved on a great recording!

Hear To Slay brings in guest Cristela Alonzo for new episode

McGilvray-Guard and Alonzo at the studio.

One of our very favorite podcasts to work with, Hear To Slay, recently brought in the great and very funny Cristela Alonzo (Cristela) for a new episode. Hear To Slay is the brainchild of Roxane Gay and Tressie McMillan Cottom, and features interviews with some pretty talented and amazing women, alongside cultural commentary, contemporary intersectional feminist viewpoints, and discussion of current events.

This session was engineered by our own Pascal McGilvray-Guard, who has taken the lead on engineering the majority of Gay and McMillan Cottom’s shows, alongside Dubway engineers Violette Furton and Rory O’Hara. We were lucky and honored to have Alonzo in studio for this session, but as Pascal will tell you, that’s not always the case. Fortunately, we’re set up for remote session recording as well.

Hear To Slay is available from Luminary – you can pick up the podcast and a Luminary subscription right here. We definitely encourage you to do so!

Maria Geyman and Liza Roeckl's podcast "Funny Feelings", recorded at Dubway.

We’ve had an amazing time working with local wellness and culture podcast Funny Feelings on their first season! The podcast is hosted by Maria Geyman, a naturopathic doctor, and Liza Roeckle, a healer, and it’s all about wellness – often by way of a great linuep of visiting interviewees and personalities. The guests so far have included Emily Meade (The Deuce, Law & Order: SVU) and Lena Dunham (Girls) and are sure to stay interesting in the coming weeks!

Our sessions for Funny Feelings were engineered by Pascal McGilvray-Guard and Burgess Carleton, with Matthias Roeckl producing for the podcast team. Sessions were recorded in our New York studios and on location with our production rig.

You can find more about the podcast on their website.

"The Kill Team" records at Dubway

The Kill Team, the newest feature from all-star studio A24 (Moonlight, Lady Bird, The Witch, Spring Breakers), is set to release this week, and we were honored to have been a part of the post-production process! Dubway engineer Pascal McGilvray-Guard recorded ADR at Dubway last year in preparation for festival season screenings – and now a commercial release.

The Kill Team stars Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies) and Nat Wolff (The Fault In Our Stars) and is directed by Dan Krauss. The film is set in Afghanistan in 2009, and tells a ‘docudrama’ style history of the Maywand District murders. Rotten Tomatoes currently has this one at 100% after its TriBeCa Film Festival appearance. It’s definitely not to be missed!

We’re proud to announce that Dubway was involved in the ADR recording process for Gully, a feature by Nabil Elderkin that premiered at TriBeCa Film Festival 2019 and featured performances from Jacob Latimore, Charlie Plummer, and Kelvin Harrison Jr (as well as a cameo by Travis Scott).  Sessions were engineered by Louis Fisher and Nathaniel Reichman in our Main Floor studios in New York. We’ve sat on this news for some time so it’s great to finally be able to share this project, and our part in it, with the world.

Amazing work all around – keep your eyes peeled for a home release!

New season of Nickelodeon's Bubble Guppies has arrived!

We’re immensely proud and excited to announce that, as of last week, the fifth season of Nickelodeon’s smash hit series for young children, Bubble Guppies, is on the air! Dubway has long been involved with the show, which records and post-produces its sound at our studios in Manhattan. Work on the show has involved a number of our staff, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Louis Fisher, Al Houghton, and Nathaniel Reichman, each of whom have played important engineering and producing roles over the many seasons of our involvement with the Bubble Guppies team.

Check out the write up on the new season over at Broadway World, and if you have preschool-aged children (or just love quality children’s entertainment), check the show out at the first link above.

"Tower Of Silence" has continued success at international film festivals.

Palmarium’s feature film Tower Of Silence has had a string of successes at recent international festivals! The film was at the Marche du Film at Cannes, and more recently screened at the Toronto Film Festival. A North American theatrical release is in the works as well, set for this winter.

Tower Of Silence had its audio post-produced at Dubway, and needless to say we’re very excited to see the reception it’s getting. Keep your eyes peeled for a showing near you this winter!

Sessions were recorded by in-house engineers Rory O’hara and Violette Furton.
