MAP produces interview with Dennis Freedman

Creative director and major contributor to the world of fashion Dennis Freedman sat down at Dubway recently to be interviewed on record by writer, DJ, and artist Shirine Saad. We were honored to have them both in the studio! Dennis Freedman, best known as the editor of W magazine and the creative director at Barney’s, has produced product launches and photoshoots for major fashion brands worldwide.

In the session, engineered by Dubway’s Violette Furton, these two luminaries discussed art, fashion, and their careers. The entire project is produced and directed by photographer Caroline Washburn, of MAP.

"Ruff Night" premiers at NYC Downtown Short Film Festival

Jono Freedrix’s short film Ruff Night premiers tomorrow night, and has just been officially accepted into the NYC Downtown Short Film Festival! Dubway was responsible for both the production audio at the shoot, and the audio post (staff engineer Louis Fisher.)

The premier can be attended by members of the public; you can find tickets here. If you’re interested in attending, get them soon – it’s a small theater and a great short, expect it to sell out.

Congratulations to everyone involved, and best of luck in upcoming festivals!

Lee Kuczewski’s (pictured left) Merging Futures podcast covers science, technology, and arts, but focuses in on the people working at the intersection of all three. The podcast records from Dubway Studios with our engineer Pascal McGilvray-Guard.

Merging Futures films their episodes and chooses to record in the control room, rather than the sound room, for this purpose. All our rooms are acoustically treated, and our ProTools machines can be remotely monitored and controlled, so if your next project includes filming, give us a call!

"Poetics" podcast with Omari Hardwick

poetics.jpg

The “Poetics” podcast, which features interviews and original poetry from the major players in hip hop, has been recording many of its episodes at Dubway studios in recent months.

Dubway engineer Zac Suskevich has been handling these recordings, which often include a film crew, several producers, and the guest artist. All of our Control Rooms can be remotely operated and paired with any of our Sound Rooms, and “Poetics” often records in the Control Room to get better footage, with Zac monitoring the record remotely.

“Poetics” is only on Luminary, and new episodes can be found here. You can find “Poetics” on Instagram as well for news, behind the scenes pictures, and more, at @poeticspodcast and @hearluminary. This podcast gets amazing talent (see picture below) to dive deep into word craft – check it out!

Netflix series "The Society" records at Dubway

Dubway was excited to recently host cast members from the upcoming Netflix teen mystery-drama, The Society, to record lines of dialogue for several episodes.  The show is loosely based on Lord Of The Flies, and is highly anticipated as “Netflix’s next great teen series” (Refinery29).  Our engineer Louis Fisher handled the control room, while the actors Amy Carlson, Olivia Nikkanen, Spencer House, David Aaron Baker, and Jack Mulher each recorded lines of ADR over the course of an afternoon.

ADR recording for French film "Le Dindon"

image1.jpg

The French comedy film Le Dindon (The Turkey) is in the final stages of post-production, and Dubway has been proud to host some of that work.  Le Dindon is an adaptation of a 1951 French film of the same name, itself an adaptation of a 19th century play by the early vaudevillian playwright Georges Feydeau, and stars Jessica Sherman, Holt McCallany, Dany Boon, and Alice Pol.  Jessica Sherman was in-studio for the day, doing lines and additional voice acting remotely with the directorial team in Paris, with Dubway engineer Keenan DuBois handling the recording.

Le Dindon is hilariously funny, gorgeously shot, and is currently scheduled for a 2019 theatrical release in France (it may screen in select US theaters) – stay tuned!

Dubway’s Merter Yildirim has been busy at work digitizing the personal recording collection of famed photogropher Philippe Halsman, whose work includes some of the most striking portraiture of the 20th century. Halsman was an avid recordist, and the large collection of reel-to-reel tapes and acetates includes a mixture of recorded lectures, home recordings, and conversations with other artists, friends, and family.

Philippe’s grandson Oliver Halsman Rosenberg will be using the archived recordings as part of an upcoming biopic project on his grandfather’s life and work.

Merter’s digitizing process for this project has been multi-format, and has given him the opportunity to use a variety of Dubway’s digitizing technology and devices, which include machines by Studer, Teac, Otari, and more. For a complete list, visit our Main Floor Equipment page.

ADR for Netflix's "The Spy" miniseries

Dubway had the privilege of hosting talented actor Noah Emmerich (The Americans, The Truman Show, Super 8, White Collar, The Walking Dead, Billions) to work on dialogue recording for the upcoming Netflix miniseries The Spy.  The show is set to star Sacha Baron Cohen as a top Israeli Mossad agent in Syria in the 1960’s and is based on the true story of Mossad agent Eli Cohen.  Emmerich’s lines were recorded in studio by Dubway engineer Pascal McGilvray-Guard, with the direction coming into the studio via a phone patch.

The Spy is slated to drop on Netflix later this year.  Keep your eyes peeled for more news and release date information!

Harper Collins' "Remember Reading" with Lindsay Jacobson

Lindsay Jacobson hosts her podcast for Harper Collins, “Remember Reading”, here at Dubway every month, and engineered by Pascal McGilvray-Guard. Robert Davi in Mott Haven

Dubway has been working on some audio post production for Michael Domino & Robert Mladininch’s new film, Mott Haven. While at Dubway, Davi ran into some old friends of his in another session. The reuniting of Status IV meant we were treated to some wonderful music in our lobby!
